Shameet Thakkar, Managing Director of local (Leicester) firm Unimed Procurement Services Ltd., joined a two-day engagement in Washington, D.C., at the Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses Summit in late October.

Shameet was one of more than 2,000 entrepreneurs from across the Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses (10KSB) program invited to the Summit. The two-day event was the largest convening of small business owners in the US, celebrating fifteen years of the Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses program's impact.

Shameet was part of a delegation of nine high-growth UK businesses, with ambitions to enter the US market, invited to the Summit to help Unimed Procurement Services Ltd. build new trading relationships in the US and gain insights on the small business ecosystem, and connect with alumni from across the US, and UK.

At the high-profile event, Shameet participated in educational sessions designed to tackle critical challenges facing the sector. The agenda included deep-dive sessions focusing on best practices for workplace retention, securing access to capital, strategically leveraging Artificial Intelligence (AI) for growth, and navigating supply chain complexities. The goal was to equip small business leaders with advanced tools to scale their companies.

The 10KSB Summit 2025 brought together thousands of local small business leaders, as well as high-caliber featured speakers. Shameet gained insights from global thought leaders in business, entrepreneurship, policy, sports, and entertainment, including Michael Bloomberg, Founder of Bloomberg L.P. and Goldman Sachs 10KSB Advisory Council Co-Chair; Martha Stewart, Emmy Award-Winning TV Host and Founder, Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia; and Michael Phelps, 23-Time Gold Medalist and Founder, Michael Phelps Foundation.

Charlotte Keenan, Head of the Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses UK and France Programme, said: "The 10,000 Small Businesses Summit represents the essential next step in Unimed’s journey. By convening thousands of ambitious entrepreneurs in Washington D.C., we are providing the opportunity for Shameet to gain not just strategic insights on topics like capital access and AI, but also gain on-the-ground experience to support their ambitions to expand internationally and scale their businesses.’

Since its launch in 2010, Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses has committed $750 million to support meaningful and measurable small business growth across the US, UK, and France with more than 20,000 alumni.
